The United States will hold its next general elections on November 3, 2026. The elections are an opportunity for Democrats to break the Republican control of all branches of the government and halt the spree of environmental rollbacks. If Republicans maintain power, it will cement support for the Trump administration’s agenda for two more years.
In addition, 36 states will also choose their next governor, with major implications for state-level energy, climate regulation, and utility governance. Closely watched races include: California, Florida, Georgia, Arizona and Michigan
This press briefing will explore:
- The results in the context of climate and geopolitics.
- How the political landscape across Congress and the states may change over the next two years.
- Potential legislative priorities for the next session that could impact affordability, accountability, and climate action efforts – and implications for the rest of the world.
SPEAKERS:
- Jay Inslee, Former Governor of Washington State
- Gretchen Goldman, President, Union of Concerned Scientists
- TBA, the Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition (SEEC) Institute
- Erin Sikorsky, Director, The Center for Climate and Security
